Step 2

This tower, emblematic monument of the city, is the point of defence for the north : built in local yellow limestone, we can see archers, gunboats and machicolations, it was protected by an advanced defence or barbican further north. Dating from at least the 14th century , the tower is 20 meters high and once had a campanile with weather vane and bell. It has been damaged several times by fires and lightning, the current Comtois dome reminds us of our belonging to the Habsburg dynasty. On the outside, a damaged bas-relief sculpture remains a mystery.
